Send parcel to Moldova

Why do so many parcels travel between Italy and Moldova?

The Moldovan community in Italy is one of the largest foreign communities in the country, rooted for decades in the cities of the north and centre. The result is a steady stream of personal parcels: gifts, clothes, Italian products heading to families in Chișinău, Bălți, Cahul and the villages of the countryside. The bond is also linguistic, Moldova's official language is Romanian and a great many Moldovans speak excellent Italian, learned at work or in the family. On top of this family traffic comes the commercial one, because Italian and Moldovan businesses work together more than you might think, from wine to textiles. A small destination on the map, but with a shipping frequency that surprises anyone who does not know the country.

Bloc, scara, apartament: how do you write a Moldovan address?

The address follows the same model as in Romania. In the apartment blocks of the cities you need, beyond street and number, also the block, the staircase and the apartment, without which the courier ends up in front of a complex of identical buildings. The postcode exists and is precise: MD followed by four digits. Chișinău is divided into sectors, Centru, Botanica, Rîșcani, Buiucani and Ciocana, and naming the sector helps. A complete example: "Mario Rossi, bd. Ștefan cel Mare 124, bl. 3, sc. 2, ap. 45, MD-2001 Chișinău, Moldova, tel. +373 ...". Write the label in Latin script, which is how Romanian is written anyway. For villages, what counts is the name of the locality and the raion, the district it belongs to, because similar village names repeat from one area to another.

Who orders from Italy for business?

Wine, first of all. Moldova's cellars are legendary: Cricova and Mileștii Mici are veritable underground cities, with galleries measured in kilometres and a bottle collection of world-record size. The sector buys bottling lines, labelling machines, presses and winemaking supplies from Italy, and Italian technicians are regulars at the wineries. Then there are textiles: workshops in Chișinău and Bălți sew for Italian brands, and fabrics, accessories and sample collections shuttle between the two countries. Agriculture completes the picture, Moldova is a land of orchards and walnut groves, and spare parts for tractors, irrigation systems and fruit-processing equipment gladly arrive from Italy. These are supply chains where one urgent parcel with a spare part can decide a company's week.

Moldovan customs: what does a parcel need to clear smoothly?

Every shipment goes through Moldovan customs clearance, and the process moves quickly when the paperwork is in order. For parcels between private individuals, a precise description of the contents and a realistic, honestly declared value are enough. Commercial goods need an invoice, with every item described concretely and with HS codes, and the receiving company handles the import through its own local registration. Documents in English are perfectly fine, Romanian of course as well. Rules on food, medicines and other regulated categories follow international practice, and for special products the recipient should check the conditions in advance. Generic descriptions like "gift" or "samples" slow things down, "cotton knitwear for personal use" speeds them up.

How long does delivery take and which dates are worth knowing?

From pickup in Italy to delivery, it normally takes 7 to 13 working days. The journey is by road, across central Europe and Romania, and the range depends on the final destination, with Chișinău arriving sooner than a village in the Cahul raion. The Moldovan calendar has a few dates worth knowing. The country celebrates two Christmases, on 25 December and on 7 January according to the Julian calendar, and many families keep both. Orthodox Easter falls on a different date from the Western one, and a week later comes Paștele Blajinilor, the Easter of the departed, a deeply felt tradition. Late August brings Independence Day and Limba Noastră, the celebration of the language, close together. And on the first Sunday of October, Chișinău celebrates Ziua Vinului, the national wine festival, with the central square full of wineries. In the depths of winter, snow can slow the roads down, but it rarely stops them.
