Postal Codes of Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is a free state in the Caribbean, but it is considered to be the Federal State of the United States. Puerto Rico is the compilation of certain groups of islands in the Caribbean and the Pacific, located outside the territory of the US state, however, not being a federal state or part of one. At the subnational level, Puerto Rico is divided into only 78 municipalities. The largest municipality is San Juan with an estimated population of 400,000 inhabitants.
The postal service in Puerto Rico is managed by the Sectional Center Facility of the United States Postal Service, which is based in San Juan. Puerto Rico postal codes are composed - as in the United States, by nine-digit codes (ZIP + 4). The first three digits refer to the main zone or processing center respectively delivery center. The following two digits define the post office or delivery zone. Together they make up the base of the ZIP code. The second part consists of four digits, which refer to the sector respectively in the segment of a road and therefore have the task of defining in detail the address. The two parts are divided by a dash.

Codes, starting with 008xx-xxxx, refer to the Virgin Islands, which like Puerto Rico depend on the United States.
