Ship a Pallet to Portugal

Portugal is the western end of the line for European road freight and, at the same time, one of the countries that work most with Italian machinery and materials: the textile mills of the Minho, the shoe factories of Felgueiras, the ceramics makers around Aveiro, the mould makers of Marinha Grande. 362 Italian companies operate there, some with plants of their own such as Gres Panaria in Ílhavo and Seda near Lisbon. A pallet from Italy reaches all of mainland Portugal with the Europacco pallet service: pickup anywhere in Italy, up to 600 kg, for businesses and private customers.

From €182,56 for a standard Euro pallet (80×120 cm).

Pallet price to Portugal: weight and size count, not the kilometres

Despite the distance, the price works as it does for nearby destinations: you calculate it in the order form with weight, dimensions and addresses and see it in seconds. For a standard Euro pallet (80×120 cm) it starts at €182,56, pickup in Italy and delivery anywhere in Portugal included. Lisbon, Porto or a factory inland cost the same.

Maximum dimensions: 150 × 150 × 200 cm (sum of the three sides max. 400 cm)

Maximum weight: 600 kg

Through France and Spain: the Iberian route to the Atlantic

Portugal is one of the most distant destinations on Europe's road network, more than two thousand kilometres from the Po Valley to Lisbon. The pallet crosses France and Spain by road and enters Portugal through the historic crossings: Vilar Formoso for the north, towards Aveiro and Porto, or Elvas for Lisbon and the south. Regular services run between Italy and Portugal, so departures are frequent despite the distance.

Logistics in Portugal is concentrated in two hubs. Greater Lisbon, with the warehouses of Azambuja, Alverca and Montijo, moves almost two thirds of the country's goods; Porto, with Maia, Matosinhos and the port of Leixões, serves the industrial north. In between, Aveiro, Coimbra and Leiria are the stops for the factories of the centre. Delivery typically takes 7-10 working days and covers the whole mainland, from the Algarve to the Minho.

Italy and Portugal are both in the European Union: no duties, no customs declaration. All you need is the transport document (DDT) you receive after payment.

The industries that link Italy and Portugal by pallet

Italian exports to Portugal follow the specialisations of Portuguese industry, which in many sectors works with Italian machinery and materials. The most common cases:

Machinery for textiles and footwear in the north

Northern Portugal, between Braga, Porto and Aveiro, holds almost all of the country's textile industry, and Felgueiras is one of the largest footwear districts in Europe. Italian makers of machinery for textiles, footwear, leather goods and tanning supply these factories with plant, spare part assemblies and tooling: the pallet is the standard format for a line upgrade or a spare part that cannot wait.

Fabrics, yarns and trimmings for Portuguese garment makers

Textiles are the second largest item in Italian exports to Portugal. The mills of Prato, Biella and Como ship bolts of fabric, yarns and trimmings by pallet to the garment makers of the Ave valley and to the fashion brands producing in the country. Seasonal orders and sample collections travel on Euro pallets to Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão.

Fittings and machinery for the furniture capital

Paços de Ferreira, in the Porto district, is the "Capital do Móvel": around 4,000 companies and 35,000 workers making furniture for the whole of Europe. Italian woodworking machinery, fittings and finishes arrive here by pallet, as do the samples for Export Home, the furniture fair in Porto.

Ceramics, sanitaryware and finishes, in both directions

In Aveiro and Ílhavo, Panariagroup produces under the Margres and Love Tiles brands, and OLI, part of the Brescia-based Silmar group, makes bathroom systems. Spare parts, equipment and raw materials travel from Italy to these plants, while Italian tiles and taps reach dealers and building sites in Lisbon and Porto, with the November date of Concreta, the architecture and construction fair in Porto.

Food and wine, with cork coming back

Italian food exports to Portugal are growing at double-digit rates: importers and distributors in Lisbon and Porto receive pasta, oil, preserves, cheese and wine by pallet, and in November they exhibit at ExpoAlimenta in Porto. Cork stoppers travel the other way: Portugal produces half the world's cork, and Amorim, the largest producer, serves Italian wineries from its base in Conegliano. Traffic in both directions that keeps the route busy.

Shipping a pallet to Portugal: the most common questions

How many days does delivery to Portugal take?

The pallet is delivered in around 7-10 working days from pickup. Lisbon, Porto and the industrial zones of the north usually fall at the lower end of the range, the Algarve and inland areas towards the upper end. For a fair or a delivery on a fixed date, allow a few days' margin.

Is the price the same for Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve?

Yes. The price depends on the weight and dimensions of the pallet, not on the destination city. For a Euro pallet 80×120 cm it starts at €182,56, pickup in Italy and delivery in Portugal included: enter the details in the order form and you see it straight away.

How do I write a delivery address in Portugal?

The Portuguese postcode has seven digits in two blocks, for example 1000-001 Lisboa, and is always written in full. The street type comes before the name (Rua, Avenida, Praça) and the number after it, as in Rua Augusta 25. In multi-storey buildings the floor and side are added too, for example "3.º Esq.": for a pallet it is a useful detail for the driver's delivery notice.

Does Europacco deliver to Paços de Ferreira and the other districts of the north?

Yes. Paços de Ferreira, Felgueiras, Guimarães, Vila Nova de Famalicão, São João da Madeira and the industrial zones around Braga and Aveiro are regular destinations for pallets from Italy. For factories with fixed receiving hours, add a contact name and phone number so the driver knows who to ask for on arrival.

Can I ship a pallet to Portugal as a private customer?

Yes, and it happens more and more often: people moving to Lisbon or Porto for work, study or retirement ship furniture and personal belongings by pallet without organising a full removal. Pickup works from a private address too, as long as the pallet is accessible to the driver.

Are there customs checks between Italy and Portugal?

No. Italy and Portugal are both in the EU and both use the euro: no duties, no customs declaration, no invoice to present at the border. The only document is the DDT, which you receive after payment and attach to the pallet.
