Send parcel to Kosovo

Why do parcels to Kosovo multiply in summer?

Because in summer, Kosovo doubles. The Kosovar diaspora is enormous relative to the population, and between July and August those living abroad come home for the holidays, the village festivities and above all the weddings, which are almost all packed into the summer season. In the weeks before departure, the flow of parcels from Italy grows too: gifts, outfits for the ceremonies, Italian products that need to arrive before the celebration. It's also the liveliest time of year on the roads, so if you're shipping for a specific occasion, it pays to move early rather than leave it to the last few days.

Who receives parcels from Italy in Kosovo?

Europe's youngest country is young twice over, by date of birth and by average age, among the lowest on the continent. And a young country consumes. Pristina has a surprisingly vibrant café scene, the local macchiato is a small point of national pride, and its bars order espresso machines, grinders, cups and roasted coffee from Italy. Construction sites and craftsmen, the engine of the economy, receive tools and equipment. Furniture workshops and joineries work with Italian hardware and materials, and the wineries around Rahovec, the country's wine heartland, look to Italy for their cellar equipment. And then the families, with the parcels of those living and working in Italy: the thread that holds everything else together.

How do you write a Kosovar address?

In Albanian and in Latin letters, so no obstacles for anyone shipping from Italy. The structure is simple: street and number, five-digit postcode and city, 10000 for Pristina. An example: "Mario Rossi, rr. Nëna Terezë 28, 10000 Prishtinë, Kosovo, tel. +383 ...", where "rr." stands for rruga, the street, and the capital's main boulevard is named after Mother Teresa, herself from an Albanian family. One detail worth knowing: many streets have been renamed over recent decades, and the old names are still in everyday use. If the recipient mentions a nearby landmark, add it to the address. The phone number with the +383 prefix is the key that resolves any doubt on the last mile.

They pay in euros, but how does customs work?

Kosovars carry the euro in their wallets, the country's official currency, and that makes declaring values simple: no exchange rate, no conversion. Customs, however, is entirely Kosovar, with its own rules and its own procedure, and every incoming parcel passes through it. For parcels between private individuals, you need a precise description of the contents and an honestly declared value. For commercial goods, what counts is the invoice, the items described one by one and the HS codes, with the receiving company registered for imports. Documents in English work without any problem. For food and other regulated categories, the recipient should check the conditions beforehand: a phone call to the local customs office costs less than a parcel stuck in clearance.
